With sub-zero temperatures settling in, it feels like a good time to close out the bike season with a recap of this past year's achievements and with a preview of what's to come for 2017.
It's been a busy year for the Terrace Mountain trail network. We officially opened two new trails: Down Tube and Hatchet Boy and revamped a good portion of Steinhoe South. Down Tube is a fast, fun machine built flow trail with some technical ascents thrown in to keep everyone honest. Hatchet Boy is the return trail to get you back to the bottom of T2 instead of riding back up Kitselas Road. Steinhoe South now has some incredible flow and pump. If you haven't checked out any of these trails yet, get after it before they are buried in snow (but watch out for ice).
These trails are years in the making and would not be possible without the hard work of many individuals. Firstly, we would like to thank Recreation Sites and Trails for approving the locations and for providing the majority of funding for these (and many other) projects. Progressive Ventures donated $500 and the Terrace Community Forest Grant of $7500 were both used for this project. A huge shout out to the contractors (Wild Bike, Gopher Mini Services, and Ted McCreary) who were responsible for building the trail. Tony Moore deserves a big kudos for designing the trails and overseeing the build out. Thank you to Canadian Helicopters for helping us move the mini excavator around the mountain. And a final thank you to the Ministry of Forests Fire Protection Crew, Andrew Blix and countless volunteers who came out and put in some serious sweat equity to clear brush and move A LOT of dirt and rock.
It takes a huge effort to get trails approved and built. We're pretty fortunate that we have such strong support from land managers, local businesses and a strong contingent of people who love these trails.
